Yes. Gemini can access your Google Drive files in two specific ways:

  • Explicit Sharing: When you directly upload or attach a specific file into the chat.

  • Workspace Extension: When you opt-in and turn on the Google Workspace extension, allowing Gemini to search your Drive (Docs, Sheets, and PDFs) to answer your prompts.

Yes. Gemini can translate text between 40+ languages. For academic, research, or official communications, you should always review and verify translations for accuracy before using them.

Data privacy

Gemini is approved for ASU non-regulated, internal, and FERPA-protected data, but not for HIPAA or other regulated data. Google Workspace for Education protections apply, and Google does not use your data, prompts, or responses for AI training.
