Copilot Chat is free for ASU students, faculty and staff. Microsoft 365 Copilot requires a paid license purchased by an individual department for eligible users.

Copilot Chat is a standalone AI assistant available through the Copilot app and website. Microsoft 365 Copilot adds AI features directly to Microsoft 365 applications and includes additional capabilities.

Confirm you're signed in with your ASU Microsoft account and that the Enterprise Data Protection shield appears in the upper-right corner. If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, switch to your ASU account before starting a conversation.

Each tool supports common tasks such as writing, brainstorming, research and content creation, but their integrations and features differ. Choose the tool that best fits the task and ASU's data classification requirements.

Yes. Copilot can translate text between 25+ languages. For academic, research, or official communications, you should always review and verify translations for accuracy before using them.

Data privacy

Copilot Chat is approved for sensitive data governed by FERPA and for ASU public, internal and sensitive data not governed by other regulations. It is not approved for HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GLBA or other regulated data types. No ASU data, prompts, or responses are used to train the vendor's models.
