FAQ

Both licenses include the same Claude features. Premium differs in two ways:

  • More usage. Premium includes roughly 5x the usage of Standard.
  • Claude Fable 5 access. Premium includes access to Fable, Anthropic's most advanced model (with its own weekly usage allowance). On Standard, the most advanced model available is Claude Opus.

For most people, Standard is the right starting point. Consider Premium if you find yourself regularly hitting usage limits, or if your work specifically benefits from the Claude Fable 5 model.

Claude only uses a rolling 5-hour usage window. ASU accounts have substantially more usage than personal Claude accounts. As a reference point: a Standard license includes roughly 5x the usage of a personal Claude Pro subscription, and Premium has 5x the usage of Standard.

Some features and models also carry their own limits. For example, the Claude Fable 5 model (Premium) has a separate weekly allowance, and Anthropic occasionally adds similar limits for specific features or models.

You can check all of the usage limits by going to Settings → Usage to see where you stand.

Yes. Unlike ChatGPT Edu, Gemini, and Copilot Chat — which ASU funds centrally — Claude requires a department-purchased license (Standard or Premium). Licenses are billed annually to the sponsoring department and cannot be purchased with personal funds. Current pricing is listed in the ServiceNow request form.

Claude is one of ASU's newer enterprise AI tools. Many of its features are currently under evaluation for privacy and security, and may become available at a later date. Watch this page and #ai-support for updates.

Click your profile icon at the bottom left. Your ASU workspace appears with an Enterprise label and a checkmark when selected. ASU Claude accounts may belong to a sub-team within ASU; the team name appears next to the Enterprise label. Personal accounts show Free, Pro, or Max instead.

Yes. Faculty and staff can request Claude licenses on behalf of others through the same ServiceNow request. You'll need the ASURITE of each person receiving a license, an internal ASU payment account called a "Cost Center" (CC) from your Business Operations Manager, and your direct manager's approval — the same as any license request.

Students cannot request licenses themselves. A faculty or staff member must sponsor them by submitting the request on their behalf; sponsored student licenses are granted for a specific time frame defined by the sponsoring department.

Yes. The ServiceNow request form lets you select program, grants, or gifts as payment options. As with all license purchases, you'll need an internal ASU payment account called a "Cost center" (CC) from your Business Operations Manager and your direct manager's approval.

Changes to your license type requires you to cancel your original subscription and then a new purchase through ServiceNow:

  1. Submit a request to cancel your Standard license. The unused portion of the annual Standard cost is prorated and may be applied toward the Premium license.
  2. Submit a new request for a Premium license, with payment information (CC/PG) to be approved by a manager, the same as any license request.
  3. To avoid a gap in access, note the following in your cancelation request

"This is a change of an existing license. Please ensure the new license type is activated before removing my existing license."

This applies to upgrading from standard to premium as well as downgrading from premium to standard.
